You can create dependencies between variables in your project, so that some variables or values in the entry form only show depending on selected values in other variables. This way you can create a dynamic visualisation of variables or a selection of category values in your forms. The initiating variable controls the dependent variable. This is particularly useful if you have many variables in your project.
Before you start building dependencies, all variables you will use must have been created in the "Variables" window (see Create variables).
Go to "Project Design" and select "Dependencies".
If your project design includes one or more series, you will need to define whether the dependency is to be created within a specific series or on the main level. (Dependencies can not be made with variables that belong to different series or across series/ main level.) Set the correct context under "Select context" in the left-side panel (default is "Main level").
Below is the list of available variables in the chosen context. Drag and drop the variable you would like to use as the initiating variable over to the clipboard, click "+ Add variable", or click on the "+"-icon next to the variable name (becomes visible when hovering over the variable card)
Choose if you would like to build the dependency with 'Visibility' or 'Filtering' - see examples in these sections on how to proceed with the setups depending on which one you choose.
Click "+ New condition"
Define the value of the initiating variable that should lead to the dependent variable.
Define the dependent variable
Add a rule description (optional)
Click "Update"
When you have created and updated dependencies, you can
Enable or disable the dependency rules via the "Enable rules" toggle button
View them in a table format by selecting the table icon in the top right corner
Expand or collapse the rules by clicking the three dots in the top right corner
