You can organise the variables in a project into groups in several ways:
Create a new group without variables
Go to the "Variables" window and click on the "+ New" button.
Select "New variable group"
Give your group a name
Click "Create"
The group will show as a card on your variable dashboard
Drag and drop the variables you would like to include in the group
NB: If you can't drag and drop variables, make sure that you have chosen "All" from the "Show" dropdown menu on the left side of the screen. If not, you will not be able to drag and drop variables.
Create a new group from existing variables
Grid view
Go to the "Variables" window
Create groups by dragging one variable and dropping it over another variable that you want to combine in a group
Select "Create new group" from the dropdown menu
Give your new group a name
Click "Create"
The new group will appear in the grid view. You can drag and drop more variables into the group.
Table view
Go to the "Variables" window and select the table view
Select all variables that should be part of your group
Click the "move" icon in the upper right corner
Select the "Group" button and choose "+ Create new group" from the dropdown menu
Give your new group a name
Click "Apply"
Create new variables within an existing group
In the "Variables" window (grid view), click on the group you would like to add a variable to
The "Edit Group" card will appear on the right side of the screen
Click "+ New Variable"
Follow the steps from step 3 described under Create variables
Add existing variables to an existing group
Grid view
Drag any existing variable to the group card or the "Edit group" window
Table view
Select the variable(s) you want to add to the group
Click the "Move" icon in the upper right corner
Select the "Group" button and choose the appropriate group from the dropdown menu
Click "Apply"
Variable groups are marked with an orange line both in the variable window and in the dataset window.
